The Benjamin Franklin Chargers hosted their homecoming powderpuff game on Wednesday night this past week. The Seniors, in black jerseys, faced off against the juniors, in pink jerseys. The seniors had lost the previous year as juniors and were looking to get a win after this loss. The juniors are an athletic bunch of girls that were looking to upset the seniors. The game began at 6 and had a great turnout, because many people wanted to see the game and see the male cheerleaders do their halftime dance.

The juniors won the toss and started with the ball on the 25-yard line. Their first drive did not quite go the way they wanted it to, and on fourth down the seniors intercepted the ball to get them within 20 yards of the touchdown. The next play the seniors handed the ball to Sydney Fish, who ran outside of the juniors defense and scored to give the seniors a 6-0 lead. The seniors also got their extra point to give them and 8 point lead. The rest of the first half did not go well for either team. The juniors could still not get anything going on offense, but they made some changes on defense that also stopped the seniors. The score at the end of the half stayed at 8-0.

Both teams came out the second half ready to play, but the juniors made some changes with their offense that got their offense going. The defenses of both teams played strong and shut down the offenses for most of the half. Part way through the third quarter, the seniors pinned the juniors against their goal line and senior, Taylor Vanduyn, pulled a junior’s flag in the endzone to force a safety. This gave the seniors a 10-0 lead. The juniors had had enough and came out throwing the ball all over the place. On a quick drive in the fourth quarter, quarterback, Madi Schiermeyer, threw a 75-yard touchdown to Emma Wright. This brought the juniors within a touchdown of the seniors. The juniors had one more chance to score on the seniors, but the seniors made a big stop on fourth down to get the ball and run down the clock. The seniors cheered as the clock ran out and they had won the game 10-6. The Charger powderpuff game brought a good crowd and gave fun entertainment for those who came to watch.
