With fall sports coming to an end, winter sports are starting off their season and getting ready to finally play. One of these sports includes Basketball, both boys’ and girls’. After overcoming last year’s difficulties with covid, both teams are ready to bounce back and show their new potential with a new and full season. Tryouts officially started this week (November 1st) with Athletes getting the opportunity to show off their skills and try to make it on the team. With all that tried out, there ended up being just one Varsity girls team, and a freshman, JV, and Varsity team for the boys.
The boys team, varsity being led by Ethan Evangelista (Senior) and Sterling Rice (Senior), start off their season on December 3rd in a freedom game against Coolidge High School. The girls, led by Dannica Zambrano (Senior) and Michelle Castro (Senior) team start the same day with it being a freedom game as well. Both teams then have an following home game against San Tan Foothills, which is bound to get the student body ready for their long awaited season.
Both teams have grown tremendously over the years with there being many more student athletes coming out to play. There are very high hopes for both teams and many expectations for them to live up to. We are excited to see how far both teams come and what will come of their season.
