Top Ten Halloween Movies

With Halloween rapidly approaching, old traditions of watching Halloween movies with the family, baking sweet treats and getting in the spirit are coming back. With that, let’s look at what I think are top ten Halloween classics ranging from horror to family friendly everyone must watch.

  1. Addams Family

Starting off with number 10, The Addams Family is a classic children’s movie loved by both adults and kids. It sits at number 10 however, due to it not being popular, as well as not really being classified as a Halloween movie, per say.

  1. Casper

Casper is another family friendly classic that is considered a must watch. It’s a fun way to start off a Halloween marathon, or to start off the Halloween season. While not being the most relevant, it is still a fun and classic movie loved by many.

  1. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is a movie loved by many with its unique storyline and fun plot. It’s another classic children’s Halloween movie that is a must watch during the spooky season.

  1. Monster House

Monster House, while not very well known, is a staple in Halloween movies and classics. It’s fun plot and suspense, while still holding true to it’s family friendly theme is what makes it so good.

  1. Saw

Saw is not just a classic Halloween movie, but a classic horror movie. The unique plot and it’s many suspenseful scenes leave watchers on the edge of their seats. It’s definitely a movie you could rewatch and never get tired of.

  1. Halloweentown

Halloweentown is a Disney classic. It’s loved among both children and adults for nostalgia reasons and its fun scenes. The whole trilogy bring fun to any Halloween marathon or event and will be sure to provide Halloween spirit during the season.

3/4. Friday the 13th

Being tied for 3rd is Friday the 13th. While being a classic Halloween movie and a horror movie, the character Jason himself is a classic among many games and movies in pop culture. This movie has a big influence on today’s society, and it also is just an amazing movie.

3/4. Nightmare on Elm Street

Nightmare on Elm Street, similar to Friday the 13th, is a known classic. Freddy Kreuger is an icon in pop culture as well. Both characters then continue to reunite in the movie Freddy vs Jason which combines both iconic movies into an action packed movie. Nightmare on Elm Street is a must watch not just for Halloween movies, but in general.

  1. Halloween (1978)

Halloween, while similar to Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, is different in the plot. Micheal Meyers is also an icon and a staple to Halloween culture, but the movie Halloween (the original) tops both movies.

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween classic, a Christmas classic, as well as an overall classic movie everyone knows. Its bright and fun plot, as well as themes help bring everyone into the Halloween spirit. The movie itself is amazing, thus giving it the number one spot it deserves.
