Hello everyone, I hope you had a fun winter break. This week on Animation News we are talking about Nickelodeon’s newest addition to its cartoon lineup, It’s Pony.

It’s Pony was created by animator Ant Blades, whose show was inspired by a short found 2015 Nickelodeon International Animated Shorts Program. Ant Blades previously worked as an animator and a writer for the shorts WildebeestCarpark, Badgered, and the documentary Attention Please. Blades explained, “I was trying to think of a good idea for a series and wanted it to be relatable and simple…I was looking for an idea that had scope for a lot of craziness, but also room for heart and charm. A girl trying to look after her pony in the city sprang to mind. Especially if it wasn’t that easy. How would you cope with a horse in an elevator?” (Zahed, 2019).

It’s Pony features the adventures of Annie (Jessica DiCicco) and her best friend Pony (Josh Zuckerman) as they try to survive in city life. Annie is a hopeful and determined farmgirl and Pony is impulsive and naïve but their bond is unbreakable. Ant Blades plans for the series to “explore the everyday life and hijinks of two best friends whose optimism and enthusiasm turn any situation from ordinary to extraordinary” (Balach, 2019). Blades loves Pony but he also hopes for viewers to relate to the character Annie as she has to deal with her furry companion. It’s Pony also includes voice acting from Abe Benrubi, India de Beaufort, Kal Penn, Bobby Moynihan, Rosario Dawson, Mark Feuerstein, and Megan Hilty.

It’s Pony airs its first episode Saturday, January 18 and will continue airing on Nickelodeon on Saturdays. The 20-episode series will air internationally in April. If you love comedy and want to experience the crazy adventures of a girl and her pony, make sure to give this cartoon a watch.

Next time on Animation News, the second season for a beloved Cartoon Network series is already gaining hype.
