Hello everyone and welcome back to Animation News.

Adventure Time, created by Pendleton Ward, ended just over a year ago after running since 2010 and acquiring 10 seasons in the process. It is no surprise that the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series has a major following that was saddened at the loss of their beloved show. But cry no more my fellow fans, Adventure Time is being revived by HBO Max with four 1 hour-long specials that will air some time in 2020. The critically acclaimed Cartoon Network series will be named Adventure Time: Distant Lands and will be shown exclusively on HBO Max.

Each special “will center on a different beloved character or pair of characters starting with two specials launching in 2020 title BMO and Obsidian” (Jones, 2019). The episode BMO will follow the beloved robot character BMO as he helps with “a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy” (Brown, 2019). The second special to air, Obsidian, will focus on Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum as they traverse to Glass Kingdom to prevent a disaster while delving into the character’s troublesome pasts.

The last two specials to be aired are Wizard City and Together Again Wizard City fixates on the peculiar Peppermint Butler as he tries to save his precious reputation by going to wizard school. The final episode Together Again will be about our protagonists Finn and Jake as they come back together one last time for their most important adventure.

Adventure Time is one of the most influential and diverse cartoons of the last decade and has left a mark on those who grew up with it and those still getting into it now. It made amazing strides in representation of the LGBTQ community and won many awards for its story and its music. I’d highly recommend for those who have not watched Adventure Time to please give it a watch. For those who have, look out for those new specials coming out in 2020.

In next week’s news, I’ll be talking about the third movie for one of the most beloved cartoons of all time.
