A Florida nanny,Marissa Mowry, was sentenced 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy and having his child. The name of the boy was not released due to him being a minor and a victim of sexual assault. The then 11-year-old boy is now 17 with a five year old son. The victim’s mother, Nadean Campbell, spoke on her son’s behalf in court. the victim did go to Mowry’s trial on Thursday, October 17,2019. Mowry has a total of three children, but nothing, information wise, about the other two were released.

Mowry was recommended to Mrs. Campbell by Campbell’s sister-in-law. Her sister-in-law had previously hired Mowry and gave positive feedback to Campbell. Campbell hired Mowry shortly after. However, over the next few months, things starting going down hill for the little boy. She did inappropriate things at least 15 times shortly after she was hired. The boy did not say anything to his family. Many people believed he did not say anything due to being afraid of the consequences. In the fall of 2014, Mowry gave birth to the boy’s baby when he was 11-years-old. Mowry gave birth to a little baby boy. Three years later, the victim finally felt brave enough to tell his mother the whole story. Campbell immediately told authorities what happened and a later DNA test confirmed that the baby was in fact the victim’s son. On the Thursday trial, Campbell says authorities did not initially believe her. They did not believe her until they saw the evidence on the DNA test. In one of the first court cases, Mowry says the boy forced himself on her, not the other way around, but a phone call later gives evidence that that was a lie.

Mowry’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Antina Mobley, started saying her actions towards the boy were due to her messed up childhood. Attorney Mobley started saying Mowry had, “an abusive childhood and parents who were absent from Mowry’s life. The attorney said Mowry was homeless for a time.” Campbell then started stating, “a troubled past was no excuse for the damage she caused, for changing the course of his entire life.”

Even though it wasn’t the victim’s choice to have a son at such a young age, he raises his son as best as he can with the help of his family. According to his mother, “The 17-year-old takes his son to school in the morning, and goes to school himself. He plays with him in their backyard when he gets home.Being a father has put limits on what he can do in his teenage life.He can’t hang out with friends after school because he has to care for his son. Dating is out, because who wants to date a 17-year-old who has a 5-year-old?We don’t think about females being predators usually,I didn’t, and it cost me.” Not only has Mowry choices affected the victim, but it clearly has also made a big impact on the whole family, including the child that will grow up without his biological mother.
