The Hunting of Lewis (Part 8)

Elena asked me if I wanted anything to eat or drink, but I was way too freaked out to do anything. She lead me to the table and Lewis’s mom introduced the family to me. She started with the dad. His name is Eric and he was the one who thought it might be good for their family to have a house with an underground safe house. It kind of confused me, but I kept my mouth shut. Then she introduced Elena. She said Elena didn’t really have a crush, that was just their bailout story for going to the game. Then it was Lewis’s turn. She said that he felt they were being followed more than usual. When she said, “more than usual,” my stomach turned.

“Wait, you mean to tell me that you guys, the quiet family that just moved to town, knew this was going to happen?” I was shaking.

“Are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” said Eric.

“Don’t you get it?” I turned to the family, “I have seen a ghost! I’m seeing three right now! Don’t tell me that you guys are still alive, because you can’t be, it’s just not possible!” and at that remark, I fainted.

I woke up a couple of hours later in my room. At first, I was kind of freaking out because I had no way of differentiating between a dream and something that actually happened. The thought that Josh was right and I might have just hallucinated the whole thing kept running through my mind.

I rolled over on my bed and heard a paper crumple under me. It was a note from Lewis.

He wrote, “Listen, I need you to keep this secret a secret. You can’t tell anyone, not even your family. The people at school need to keep thinking we don’t know each other, so you can’t act as something happened between us. The last thing my family needs right now is more attention. If you want to talk to me, come to my house and I’ll tell you whatever you want to know. Just please don’t tell anyone.”

I was shaken up but a little relieved I hadn’t just dreamed it. I was going to take him up on his offer; I do need some questions answered about what was going on with the Richardson family.
