Have you heard about the new Psych movie? It is ok if you have not as “Psych the Movie 2” has just been announced. It will premiere on USA network this holiday season, so prepare for the fantastic duo to solve crimes, sell pharmaceuticals, and make obscure 80’s references.

For those unfamiliar with the show “Psych”, a little background is necessary. Shawn Spencer, a phony psychic detective, solves difficult and obscene crimes with his partner, Burton Guster, who goes by many aliases. The two have been best friends ever since their childhood and have remained as such. The tv series is set in the murder capital of the world: Santa Barbara, where there is always a crime to be solved, with the assistance of the Santa Barbara Police Department’s finest, detective Carlton Lassiter and Juliet O’hara. In the last movie, Shawn and Gus go to San Francisco and take down an old criminal that held a grudge against the last chief of police, but as always, the duo never disappoints. Unfortunately, the movie did not meet the expectation of some viewers of the original show.

The main question everyone has is, “where is the new movie going to pick up?” Clearly no one knows exactly what will happen, but some theories have been confirmed as to the general setting, which includes some major components missing in the first movie. Shawn and Gus will be travelling back to Santa Barbara to pick up where they left off. The gang’s back together for the complete Psych experience, which was absent in the first movie. The reason why they didn’t have the entire original cast was because Timothy Omundson (Carlton Lassiter)  suffered a stroke right before they had started filming, which required a different storyline to be written, leaving the giant gap in the first movie. Now the actor is back, and you can expect the sequel to contain the original cast.

No one likes unannounced spoilers, so if that is you, stop reading here,  and start counting down the days till the movie airs. But for those of you who want to know more on what has been released, get ready for an unpleasant surprise. Lassiter may face a near death experience, and then “he begins to see impossible happenings as Shawn and Gus navigate “the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural” that surround the case.” It has also been rumored that the duo will be, “unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police and their loved ones.” Hopefully through all the change in their surroundings, the storyline will be fantastic and leave all Psych fans more than happy.

The announcement couldn’t make anyone’s year in a better way. Some expect this movie to be a bust as it can be a challenge to shoot a second sequel to a tv series.  Some would say that “This show is bound to be like a shake. One part ice cream, two parts awesome”!
