Last Friday and Saturday, the fifth and sixth of April, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in Arizona seized $1.2 million worth of drugs at three different crossings on the border. The drugs were attempted to be smuggled over the border while being hidden in various, odd places.

The first, and largest, seizure was in Nogales at the Dennis DeConcini border crossing. “Volkswagen sedan was referred for an additional inspection. A Border Agent’s canine alerted on the vehicle, leading agents to 21 pounds of cocaine hidden in five packages in the vehicle’s quarter panels” (AZCentral). The total value of this load was estimated to be around $503,000. The driver, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, was arrested and handed over to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement officials. At the same crossing center, a 38-year-old Nogales resident was pulled over for officers to perform a routine check. Officers uncovered 70 packages of meth creatively packed into the fuel tank area of the driver’s truck. This haul valued around $216,000. This man was also arrested and sent to the Immigration and Customs officials. A 22-year-old Nebraska woman pedestrian was also stopped on her way into Arizona by a Border Control dog. On her, or rather in her, was several ounces of heroin hidden in a body cavity and was hence arrested. The heroin had an estimated value of around $4,800.

In another border crossing, located in San Luis, a 23-year-old Mexican citizen was arrested Saturday evening in an SUV. The Border Patrol agents found $332,000 worth of meth. In a spare tire hidden in the speaker box was 60 packages of meth. The man was arrested and was handed over to ICE. A narcotics detection canine stopped an 18-year-old U.S. citizen attempting to cross into the U.S. Agents found an 8-ounce package valuing around $7,800. He was arrested as well.

Border Patrol Agents at the Casto border crossing in Douglas stopped a Douglas resident on Friday. “Officials say was attempting to smuggle 9 pounds of cocaine into the state” (AZCentral). A 35-year-old man driving a GMC truck was referred for additional inspection and four packages of cocaine. The value estimated to be $222,000. The truck and the drugs were seized as well as the arrest of the man. All of the convicted are facing narcotics-smuggling charges.
