Five Feet Apart came out on March 15th of 2019. This romance movie is based upon two love struck teenagers with Cystic Fibrosis. The main characters Stella and Will are complete opposites, but as the saying goes opposites attract. Will and Stella were both in the hospital to receive certain medications to help temporarily cure them to the point that they can receive new lungs. Stella has a minor bacteria in her lungs causing her Cystic Fibrosis, while Will has a strong and aggressive bacteria that will potentially never allow  him to receive donor lungs.

The movie begins with an opening scene where Stella is posting onto her blog about Cystic Fibrosis. Stella is known for being organized and creative and she also loves infants and spends most of her time in the NICQ marveling over the young babies around her.  Stella starts to walk through the halls of the hospital when out of no where she sees this disheveled handsome man whose name was Will. At first, Stella does not really pay much attention to Will in the beginning; she seemingly dusts him off her shoulder.

Later on throughout the movie, Will and Stella both start to gain feelings for each other. Stella’s best friend, Poe, encourages her throughout the entirety of the movie to get to know Will and leave her comfort zone. During this time, Will is sitting in his room watching all of Stella’s vlog videos. He begins to learn the fun and energetic side of Stella an begins to fall for her as well. Then Stella begins to despise Will’s disorganization and the fact that he refuses to take his medication. So, Stella then gears up so she will not gain any bacteria that would be on any of his belongings. Stella walks into his room and goes to work. She cleans every nook and cranny of his room as well as creates an organizational cart of his medication. Stella then comes up with a plan so she would be able to help Will want to take his medication. She begins by giving him a schedule to be able to take his medication with her, she then video chats him every time that he needs to do exercise or a treatment so they can see each other during the day.

Eventually the two of them decide to go on a date. Stella arrives with a five foot long pool cue and says “Five feet apart”.  It is one foot closer that the required six feet given to them. They then begin to walk throughout the hospital talking about their experiences with Cystic Fibrosis and how it has changed their lives as well as their families. Stella had lost her sister about a year before and eventually confides in Will. She explains that because she could never live a life or travel, her sister did it for her. On one of the trips her sister had gotten in an accident to the point to where she was not able to recover from her injuries. Stella has kept many pieces of her sister’s art and has designed her room around it. When Stella needs to have surgery to help  her with her treatments. Will takes one of the pictures off the wall and tapes it to the top of the procedure room’s wall that Stella was in. Once Stella looked up and once she saw the captivating tree that her sister drew for her, she could not help but smile.

Towards the end of the movie Stella decides to run away from the hospital. She is sick of the rules her treatments and just wants to be free where she will not have to live in a glass box. Stella wants to see the city light and convinces Will to join her. They begin to walk throughout a park in the city an climb up a hill to the top of its snow cover peak. Will and Stella begin to horse around and Stella falls onto ice at first she is okay once will looks away and back she slips under the ice and begins to drown. Will pulls her out and begins CPR risking that she might catch his deadly bacteria. He saves her life just in time for her to be able to reach the hospital. When Stella returns she must be tested for the bacteria she may have contracted. By some miracle, the test results comes back negative and she is able to receive her lungs. Unfortunately Will is force to end his relationship with her so she can live a healthy and happy life. He sacrifices his relationship with her and ends the most important thing in his life to save Stella.
