The NBA has had some major accomplishments performed by some standout veterans this season, particularly James Harden and Russell Westbrook. The Rockets are currently fifth in the Western conference with a record of 33-24. Although they are not a top ranked team, they have one of the best offenses in the league. They are led by James Harden, who averages an astounding 36 points per game this season. He leads the NBA in average points per game, giving himself the highest average in the league by more than eight points to any other player. Harden’s high scoring year has brought him to a record breaking season. Harden has kept a streak of consecutive 30 point games going for the last 31 games. He is currently tied with Wilt Chamberlain for the second longest streak of 30 point games. Chamberlain holds the record for most consecutive 30 point games with 65 straight games. Chamberlain had a record breaking season in the 1961-62 season where he also scored 100 points in a single game. Although Chamberlain’s record does seem unbeatable, Harden is working to take the second longest streak and see how close he can come to Chamberlain’s record and see how long his streak can go.

Along with Harden’s record breaking season, Russell Westbrook has also had a record breaking season. Westbrook plays for the Oklahoma Thunder and also leads his team every week with his offensive and defensive performances. He has had a fantastic season, especially when it comes to triple doubles. A triple-double is a term used in basketball where a player scores in the double digit numbers in three of the five statistical categories including points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. Triple-doubles are specifically impressive because not only does a player have to play great offensively, he also has to play great defensively. Last season, Russell Westbrook broke the NBA record for most triple-doubles in a season with 42 and is the only player to ever average a triple-double for two seasons in a row. Although Westbrook has broken these records, this season has brought another record for him. The past record for most consecutive triple-double games was nine consecutive games. Recently, Westbrook has surpassed this record by reaching ten triple-doubles in a row, and his streak is still not broken.

The streaks of James Harden and Russell Westbrook still continue and will be a big discussion in the NBA for the next few weeks until the streaks are broken. No matter how long the streaks go, both players have made history with their record breaking seasons. These clutch players will keep leading their teams week by week to hopefully make the playoffs this season.
