David Price began his young career pitching in Major League Baseball with the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite only playing five games with them, he had a decent idea of how to pitch. His next year with Rays, he had the chance to play the entire season and pitch 23 games. He had a record of 10 wins and 7 losses. The only thing that was disappointing for this young player was his ERA (Earned Run Average) of 4.42. That meant for every 9 innings he pitched, he gave up 4.42 runs. Since it was only his 2nd year on the team, he was good enough to return for a third year. The 2010 season showed how much potential Price had. He went 19 and 7 with an ERA of 2.72. He also was selected in his first All-Star game. With this young rising star at age 24, he and the Rays made it to the playoffs. His team was to face the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs in a five game series. Price was looking to continue his outstanding numbers into the playoffs. That didn’t happen for Price. He was given the opportunity to set the tone for the Rays by pitching the first game of the playoffs. Unfortunately for Price, he gave up 4 runs and was given the loss, losing 5 to 1. His team fought hard against the Rangers. Price’s team was able  to tie up the series 2-2. The next game would be a elimination game for both teams. Price was given a second chance to redeem himself and to get his team to the next playoff round. Once again Price struggled, giving up 3 runs and losing 5 to 1. Sadly, his team was eliminated from the playoffs.

Price was criticized for his poor performance in the playoffs. A pitcher with his skill set was expected to come up big for his team. Price, however, fell short of his own expectations and those of his teammates. Price continued to pitch very well in the regular season, but somehow managed to struggle in every playoff appearance. Would Price ever be able to overcome his playoff lapse? He pitched for 4 more teams including the Rays. During his time playing with 4 different teams, his postseason numbers were terrible. His career postseason stats are 5 and 9 win/loss record, and a 4.62 ERA, playing in 13 total playoff series.

After all these playoff appearances and struggles,in 2018 at the age of 32, he finally  succeeded in what he wanted to do–win a World Series. He was with the Boston Red Soxs this year. The Red Sox beat The Los Angeles Dodgers to win The World Series. Having pitched in 6 playoff games, he finally had more wins than losses. He had 3 wins and one lose with a 3.46 ERA. Price finally proved all the critics wrong. Price has one Cy Young Award and he has played in 5 All Star Games. After spending 15 years in the big leagues, he finally earned his name at the top of the list as a successful pitcher. Congratulations, to Price, it has been a rough journey to the top, but his success in overcoming his struggles is inspirational.
