Student Concern: The new turf field is great but is there any way to get lighting so students can use it after the sun goes down.
Resolution: The university did not incorporate lighting into the budget for the field but it is something that they are looking into in the very near future.
Student Concern: The gym at North Campus is very slippery and it is never cleaned.
Resolution: The custodial staff will have the floor cleaned better on a regular basis. If an athlete is having this problem, please tell the coach, and the coach will let the proper people know about it so that it will be cleaned.
Student Concern: I would like to know if the new rec center is free to students living on campus or if we have to pay?
Resolution: For Full-Time students your membership will be included in your tuition package. Membership fees will apply to Part-Time, Graduate, and Faculity members. For more information please visit the ChargerREC website at www.newhaven.edu/ChagerREC.
Student Concern: The new rec center is awesome but the equipment in the free weight section is to close to eachother. Is there any way to spread the equipment out some?
Resolution: Campus Recreation will be paying close attention this week and next to how the equipment layout is functioning and what changes or modifications will be necessary to make over the break. Please be sure to make suggestions directly to the staff operating the Beckerman Center.
Student Concern: The new rec center was filled with athletics teams today. The women's track team was all there, in their practice gear, lifting together. The men's baseball team was also there together. It was our understanding that they would still use the North Campus gym.
Resolution: Athletes will still utilize North Campus for most practices and games but it's important to note that the Beckerman Center is intended for use by all students. There will be occasional times that practices occur in the Beckerman Center but those will be kept minimal and advanced postings will be made available to students and members. Again, as a note, groups from the same team can come in and utilize open spaces like all other students on campus. Should you have immediate concerns when working out at the Beckerman Center please contact a staff member and they will assist you. For updated information please go to www.newhaven.edu/ChargerREC.
Student Concern: The baseball team was in the rec center at 9am doing a team workout. I was told the rec center was not to be used for team sports?
Resolution: It is hard to specify when this occurred because there is no date, but it is true that teams will not hold team practices in the rec center. However, all student athletes are students who can use the rec center and can do so with friends/teammates. Just because they are wearing team or athletic apparel does not mean they are holding a team practice. If these students are intimidating or causing a problem within the rec center, please notify staff and they will address the problem. These type of problems need to be addressed as soon as possible.
Student Concern: rec center- the heat is on too high. Please ajdust to a lower temperature or fan. When student excerise they generate heat, therefore there is no need for high temperature in the building.
Resolutions: Unfortunately the problem with the heat is out of control of the Rec Center and Maintenance until the contractors balance the HVAC system. The Contractors have been working on it and updates will be posted on ChargerVoice.com
Student Concern: Turn off lights in rec center at night, botwinink rooms facing the center dont stay dark enough at night
Resolution: The lights in the Rec Center are left on at night because that is when the building is being cleaned by Facilities. If more information is provided such as which lights/windows the light is coming from, the Rec Center Staff will be more than happy to talk with Campus Facilities to fix the problem.
Student Concern: Mens Lacrosse should be allowed to play on the Kayo turf field, the field up at north campus is a joke. Until Dodds field is turfed the men should not have to suffer through sub standard playing conditions.
Resolution: It is Athletics understanding that the Men's Lacrosse Team likes playing up at Dodd's Stadium because they have the entire field to themselves. The Department of Athletics has not received any complaints from the team that they are unhappy at Dodd's Stadium. The team also gets a big crowd at Dodd's Stadium. Another reason is that Kayo Field's Lacrosse lines are designed for Women's Lacrosse and not Men's. It would not be out of the question that the lines for Men's Lacrosse are put down, but that would be in the future. If you would like to discuss this matter, please do not hesitate to speak with me in person or email me.
Student Concern: Will the Kayo field have bleechers?
Resolution: Kayo Field will eventually have bleachers and a press box put in on the side of the hill below the parking lot. As of now, the bleachers and press box will not be installed this academic year. The earliest that they would be put in would be in the Fall of 2008. Facilities and Athletics are working on improving Kayo Field to not only include bleachers and a press box, but other amenities to make the field better for students and fans.

Student Concern: The precious football team has been practicing during quiet hours on the turf field, which is very very loud and disturbing. If regular students can't be loud at 5:30 a.m. then I don't think the football team should be allowed to wake everyone up. I understand their field is under construction, but rules are rules and quiet hours are rules for a reason.
Resolution: The completion of DellaCamera Stadium, was delayed approximately 3 weeks this summer due to excessive rain. The field is due to be completed by the end of next week (Sept. 12th). Once it is completed the football team will be practicing at the normal hours of 3-5:00pm on DellaCamera field. Until the new field is ready, 4 athletic teams are trying to practice on one field. Due to the fact that we do not have lights on Kayo field one team has no choice but to practice early in the morning. As I look at the schedule, the football team will have one early morning practice this week on Thursday. I will speak with the coaches to try to keep the noise to a minimum so as not to disturb the students. Debbie Chin Posted on September 3, 2008
Student Concern: On the evening of 2/12/09 at approximately 5:45-6:30pm I observed the mens basketball team practicing at the Beckerman rec center. I was under the impression that athletic teams were not supposed to practice in an official capacity at the student rec center. I saw the team wearing jerseys, as well as the head coach instructing the athletes. I would like the rules to apply to everyone.
Resolution: In regards to the Men's basketball team using the Rec Center for practice, it does occur and did on the particular instance you are referring to because North Campus had a volleyball match going on and they needed to practice. Anytime an athletic team uses the Beckerman Center is because North Campus is not available and it is run through the Director of Campus Recreation first. Posted 3/4/2009
Student Concern: The heat in the gym is especially high. I know that heat is set too high in residence halls but it is difficult to run when the heat is too high. Is there a specific reason the heat is so high or is this just not an addressed issue?
Resolution: In response to your concern on the Heat in the recreation Center, I spoke with Mike Schneider and he has called the people in charge of temperature control and the HVAC and is addressing the issue. Posted 3/4/2009
