The Residential Issues Committee serves as a liaison between the Office of Residential Life, the Residential Life Hall Councils and USGA to promote joint programming and publicity of Residential Hall programs. The USGA Residential Issues Committee also serves as an outlet for students to adress concerns regarding any issues in their residence hall including any issues that are not being resolved by their RA or RD.
Students concerned about topics relating to the Residential Issues are asked to contact the Residential Issues Committee Chair at either USGAresidential@newhaven.edu or by filling out a concern form on this website.
Resolutions
Student Concern - The vending machine in Botwinik Hall is not accepting Charger $. The card reader announces that it is not accepting cards. DO SOMETHING--WE'RE THIRSTY!!
Resolution - The machines have been reset and should now be working. If they are not please post a concern!
Student Concern: The elevators inside Botwinik move too slowly. The doors take a while to shut. Once you get to the floor you wish it takes the doors 4 seconds to open. It is all just really annoying.
Resolution: The speed of the car is determined by the control module running the elevator which is pre set by the manufacture.
Student Concern: First, I applaud the University on the design and advancements that the new dorm will add to the school. I know that it is a worn-out issue, but what is the parking plan? Is there a number that can be given for how many spots are lost by the Lee Institute, the park behind the library, and the new dorm versus the actual spots gained around Dunham and Winchester? I still feel that campus beautification is important, but trees and park benches don't help commuters get to class. It needs to be remembered that UNH is a city university, not one in a rural environment. Thanks for your time.
Resolution: The administration is well aware of the concerns from students regarding the parking situation. They are in the process of acquiring new properties that surround the University to utilize for parking. There is a very comprehensive plan for the areas around the proposed new residence hall and between Sheffield, Winchester and Dunham halls for parking. That plan will be completed in the same timeline as a part of the new residence hall project. One of the requirements for receiving permits for construction involves a plan for all parking that will be displaced by the construction. If you have any questions regarding the new residence hall please direct them to Parker Gallo at , as he is the USGA representative who sits on the planning committee for the building.
Student Concern: Residents have been asking if there can be vending machines put in New Hall. Even though the New cafe is right next door they feel that they should have a way to get food after it closes/before it opens and also feel it would give more options to them.
Resolution: The vending machine company is currently exploring options of adding vending machines to New Hall. They have also been asked to do a comprehensive sweep of campus to address any issues with the machines.
Student Concern: The gate on the side of the new turf field, between the field and the German Club. Initially it was not locked, and I found it very useful and it saved a lot of time and energy because I could sneak through there rather than having to travel around the German club when going from the residential halls (Winchester, and Sheffield in particular) to New Hall or the field itself. Shortly after, I found that it was locked and have ever since hoped that it could be unlocked so everyone can use it once again. So I guess my main question is that unless there is a valid reason for the gate to be locked, could we please have it reopened so for students to use once again?
Resolution: That gate was open during construction to facilitate movement by the workers. It was never meant to be an access for students to cut through, but only there for when there is a game going on and a need to retrieve a ball that has gone over the fence. We actually do not want regular foot traffic along in that area as it causes problems for the German Club and its members. In fact they expressed their concern during the time it was open.
